Poor Man's DIY Screen Printing // wAw

the screen-making process

So I've been working with a few bands on t-shirts lately and thanks to an old [info]craftgrrl post, I came up with a way for A War Within to screen print some shirts with a whole lotta elbow grease since they've got little else. I'm pretty proud of how they're coming out...all this for less than $25 - and I didn't even have to buy a $2,000 silkscreen machine. Check it out...

the modge podged screen

inking the screen // speedball ink

compare: print and screenprint

not quite the final product {it's a tri-colour screen}

You could turn suicide into the latest trend <3

lovelove.

Also, I find the word 'hodgepodge' to be one of the funniest things lately.

It makes me think of hedgehogs.

Okay, I'm gonna give you a second to be overwhelmed by the cuteness.

a silkscreen machine? what is that?

you could actually set up an entire screenprinting studio for about $50, and get nicer results than that. although this did come out nice.

They typically look something like:

or

$50? How? I did all four screens with a little work and the following:
*four old needlepoint hoop things {25 cents each}
*one yard material {$1}
*modge podge {$5.99 - but still have TONS left}
*paint brushes & sponges {$2}
*speedball ink {$7.99}

So total cost without shirts was about $18.

I would've loved to get a whole screenprint studio up, but a) I didn't have a local hookup to buy all the materials (lightbulbs, chemicals, etc), b) I've never done it before and c) we needed something suuuuuuper cheap.

But fill me in! Please!
